Aims: Big Brothers and Sisters recruits, screens and matches adult volunteer mentors with children and young people from lone parent families. Mentors are asked to commit for a year, and spend a couple of hours a week with their ""mentee"" doing every day things like playing sport, window shopping, or just having a cup of tea and a chat. The result is a two-way friendship that positively impacts upon the mentee's life, providing them with support, encouragement, and opportunities for new experiences. It is a simple but very effective concept that can make a big difference to a young person's life.
